SERVICES FOR R.S. ALFORD HELD SUNDAY RETIRED I.C. CONDUCTOR, PROMINENT CITIZEN, DIES FRIDAY
Funeral services for Robert S. Alford, 75, , who died at his residence at 431 Cameron St., Friday night, September 25, were held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. , The services were conducted from the Hartman Funeral....
A devout member of the Methodist Church and member of one of Pike County's most prominent families, the deceased was a retired Illinois Central conductor having served the company for fifty years before retirement.
He was widely known in this section and his death is mourned by many. His death followed a paralytic stroke at his home Tuesday night.
Active pall-bearers were H.E. Holliday, Jesse Wilsop, Isaac Nelson, D.N. Terrell, Willard Greer, B.P. Albritton.
Honorary pall-bearers wereEd Hart, R.E. McInturff, Arthur Carruth, Norman Alford, J.B. Alford, L. W. Alford, N.N. Alford, W.T. McGuire, Dudley McDowell, E.P.

Surviving Mr. Alford are his wife, Mrs. Amanda Bell Moak Alford; two sons, Lieutenant Colonel Henry M. Alford and Captain James M. Alford both of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter, Mrs. Clyde G. Wells of New Orleans, and one brother, J.M. Alford of Tylertown.
Interment was in the Hollywood Cemetery with the Hartman Funeral Home in charge.
