Catherine scolded her children in an easy way compared to Abner. Not much attention was paid her, but Abner backed her up.

Catherine was a tall, slim, rather angular build, although not especially graceful. She had blue eyes and very light hair. She said once her hair was never white with old age; it had always been that color. Her house and her person were scrupulously clean and orderly.

Fourteen months after Abner's death, Catherine died at the age of 84. Her mind was clear and had excellent mentality until the end. About one o'clock PM before going into the stupor preceding her death she perceived the distressed look on the faces of her assembled children, saying, "Don't make a fuss, just put me away". At five PM she died.
