Mrs. Ruth Smawley Champion, 98, of Oak Island died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Ocean Trail Convalescent Center in Southport.
Mrs. Champion was born April 4, 1906, in Lawndale and was the daughter of the late Mont and Nancy Whisnant Smawley. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by a son, Jimmy Champion of Cherryville; one brother and two sisters; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held at Northwood Cemetery, Southport.
