Dorothy Myrtle Tipton
(July 31, 1920 - May 9, 2009)
Dorothy Myrtle Matthews Tipton, age 88, of Marianna, formerly of the Two Egg Community passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2009. She was born in 1920 in Orange County, Florida to the late Nick and Gertrude Matthews. She retired from Florida State Hospital in 1983 after 32 years of service. She attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Marianna, where she was baptized in 1952. "Granny" as she was lovingly known by her grandchildren, loved nothing more than to cook. She was that special grandmother who catered to all, but never once asked for anything in return.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe E. Tipton, a daughter, Jerry Tipton Rogers and a sister, Catherine M. Stephens. She is survived by two daughters; Josie "Jo" Daniels and husband Frank of Marianna, and Myra Tipton Simmons of Orlando; son-in-law Jimmy Rogers of Ozark, AL; four granddaughters, Lisa Nowell and husband Don of Marianna, Tami Rogers of Orlando, Kathy Cochran and husband Jordan of Great Falls, MT, and Kimberly Cheslock and husband Steve of Orlando, three great grandsons; Alex Nowell, Joshua Cochran and Brandon Cheslock. She is survived by one sister, Sarah Manning and husband Albert of Montgomery, AL; two brothers, Coleman Matthews and wife Martha of the Two Egg Community, Albert Matthews and wife Onita of Tampa; brother-in-law Joe Stephens of Grand Ridge, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tipton will be held graveside at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. with brother-in-law Albert Manning conducting the service. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.
