LESTER B. BEAMES OBITUARY
Herington Times, Dec. 12, 1984

Services were held Tuesday morning at Puyear-Brockmeier Mortuary here for Lester B. Beames, 85, of Herington, who died Friday, Dec. 7, at the Lutheran Home care center in Herington. He was a retired railroad conductor and former city commissioner.

He was born April 3, 1899 at Belleville, a son of W.T. and Edna Marsh Beames. He lived in Herington since 1947.

Mr. Beames was a conductor for the Rock Island Railroad for 48 years. He broke and trained horses for the Army at Fort Riley during World War I.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and Kansas Lodge No. 307, AF&AM, at Herington. He also served on the Herington City Commission for six years.

He was married to Bernice Colwell on Dec. 1, 1923, at Belleville. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Leslie Beames, Holton, Robert Beames, Ramona, and Curtis Beames, Herington; nine grand-children; and 10 great-grand-children.
The Rev. Alice Monschke officiated.

Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.
