James Dahlman was one of the sixty cowboys in Captain Seth Bullock's Cowboy Brigade who took their horses to Washington DC in March of 1905 to ride in the inaugural parade to honor President Teddy Roosevelt.

He came west and worked as a cowboy. He lived in Chadron, Nebraska for twelve years and was a former sheriff of Dawes County. He later relocated to Omaha and served as mayor for twenty-seven years.

Member, city council 1884-87; mayor, 1894-95, Chadron, Neb.; sheriff, Dawes Co. three terms. delegate to the Democratic Nat'l Convention 1892, 1896; appointed sec. of State Bd. of Transportation 1897; chairman Dem. State Com., 1896-1900; mem., Dem. Nat'l Com. from Neb., 1900-08, and appointed on executive com; chairman Dem. Co. Com., Douglas Co. Mayor of Omaha 1906-09.
Married Dec. 20, 1884, to Hattie Abbott, of Union Iowa. Address: 2901 Hickory St., Omaha, Neb.
