US Congressman. After attending St. John's College in Annapolis, he studied law, passed the bar, and began practicing in Maryland. He served as a major in the Maryland militia during the War of 1812. In 1824 he was elected as an Adams Democrat to Congress from Maryland, and served three terms, from 1825 to 1831. He later served as judge of the fifth circuit court of Maryland until his death in 1848.

Gravesite Details

Original metal grave marker indicates death on Aug 6, 184X with final digit somewhat unclear, either 1846 or 1848. Contemporary news reports indicate 1846 is correct year of death, contrary to later stone grave marker indicating 1848.
