Clearfield UT.-Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, H. Kay Chandler, returned home to his Heavenly Family after a happy life of 81 years. He died peacefully in his sleep on June 25th, 2017.

Kay was born in the home he was raised in on August 16th, 1935 to Margaret and Arthur Reuel Chandler. He attended Rigby High School, where he played football and was known as Chub Chandler, graduating in 1953.

He served a two year mission for the LDS Church in the Central Atlantic States. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Brigham Young University where he met and married Phyllis Orme of Idaho Falls, ID. He later returned to BYU to earn a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.

He and Phyllis lived in Idaho Falls with the first four of their six children before they moved to Clearfield, UT in 1971. Both in Idaho Falls and in Clearfield, Kay and his family became an active part of the community and their LDS wards.

After his beloved wife, Phyllis, passed away in 2002, Kay married Karen Green, of Menan, ID, in 2004, who remains his loving wife.

Kay enjoyed working a myriad of jobs, such as forestry service, retail sales, and city government. He was known for his family businesses, including Chandler Drug and Chandler Video.

He found great pleasure in the service of his fellow beings, thriving in his LDS Church callings. He served as Bishop three times, in the stake presidency, and as a stake patriarch. He greatly enjoyed his time as a patriarch and working with his wife Karen who transcribed the blessings. One of the great joys of his life was to serve with his wife Phyllis as the Mission President in the Montana, Billings Mission from 1997 to 2000. He remained close with many of the missionaries that served under him, who, along with others he has touched during his life, came to offer fond farewells prior to his passing. He will be remembered as a man who left a lasting impression and legacy of love for others, and for the Savior.

Kay loved to spend time with family and friends, ideally at his cherished cabin in Island Park, ID. He loved to hunt and fish, especially if he could do so with his dear friends or with any of his 43 grandkids or 47 great grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; his six children: Lori (Bob), Phil (Jill), Corinne (Dale), Nate (Kelli), Kayla and Dirk (Maren); stepchildren: Dirk (Claudia), Sonya, Craig, Lorraine, Sandra (Brent) and Rich (Jen); siblings: Art and Lillie Mae; and a large extended family.

Kay is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; parents: Arthur Reuel and Margaret Chandler; siblings: James, George, Foster and Grant; and dear friends and extended family.

The family would like to send a special thanks to the health care professionals who cared for him in his final months.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations on Kay’s behalf to the LDS missionary fund.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 30, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Clearfield 11th Ward 1245 S. 1175 E., Clearfield, Utah. Friends may visit with family Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. and Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the church.
