"Politician and Labor leader. NJ State Assemblyman from 1913-1915 and NJ State Senator from 1929-1933. Arthur was also a pioneer in the labor industry and established the local carpenters and joiners union No.65 in Perth Amboy. During World War I, he was personally chosen by President Woodrow Wilson to the oversee the creation of low cost housing in Florida to assist the victims from France. Among his other accomplishments during his storied career were State President of the American Federation of Labor, controller of the customs of the port of New York & New Jersey, as well as the…" Founder and "President of the Union National Bank of Newark". The UNB had the distinction of being the only labor bank in NJ to survive the Great Depression, which can be directly attributed to Arthur As conservative management of its finance.
