Emilie Margaretha Rickert, daughter of John C. and Melinda Rickert, was born October 29, 1891, in Naperville, DuPage Co., Ill., and died Sunday, Sept. 25, 1904, at the home of her parents in this city.
With her, as the first child in the family, given of God, new life joy and new love entered the home. She grew up under the tender care and prayers of her parents and grandparents and became a strong, beautiful and obedient daughter.
The Sunday school was her favorite place, and although very young learned to love the Word of God and opened her heart to receive the truth as it was presented to her in the catechetical class.
About Christmas time she was taken sick with the measles, which disease turned into anemia and heart failure, and caused her early departure.
With submissive patience she bore the burden of her disease for 8 months, with no little hope of recovery, for she believed that Jesus would make her whole, if her desire were his will.
Upon the question, "Lovest thou the Lord Jesus?" her answer was, "Yes I love him and pray to him," and upon the further query, "Do you experience joy in your heart when you pray to Jesus?" she answered firmly, "Yes." Surely this is testimony which many of the older people are not able to make. We have all reasons to believe, that when she closed her eyes on last Sunday night at 10 minutes after 7 o'clock, she had a joyful awakening in the arms of Jesus.
She reached the age of 12 years, 10 months and 27 days. Early she has exchanged her corruptable body with an incorruptable, glorious one in heaven. She leaves behind to her departure grief stricken parents, grandparents, four brothers and one sister. One of her sisters preceded her going into the heaven of glory.
May the grace of God sustain the bereaved and grant them a sweet reunion in the heavenly home.
