Rex M. Bennett, 94, Sherwood, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Bryan.

He was born Dec. 23, 1910, in Oakwood, the son of Goldsby and Ida (Monroe) Bennett. In 1940, he married Avis Shisler, who preceded him in death. He was a farmer and retired in 1981 from the Ohio Department of Transportation. He was a member of Sherwood United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities over 50 years; and a life member of Defiance County Historical Society where he was given the Order of AuGlaize for his volunteer service at AuGlaize Village.

Surviving are three sons, Vic (Janet) and Dale (Linda) of Sherwood and Vince (Cathy), Cecil; a daughter, Sharon (Mike Wood) Bennett, Cincinnati; a brother, Edgar (Aletha), Continental; a sister, Mrs. Aaron (Doris) Kohart, Payne; and 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were a brother, Homer; two sisters, Lois Bennett and Dorthy France; and a granddaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Sherwood United Methodist Church with Revs. Katherine Riley and Charles Lade officiating. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery, Cecil. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in Burr Funeral Home and Crematory, Sherwood.
