Sarah Ann "Sallie" Gibson Rascoe was the daughter of Thomas Gibson and Mary Ann Pike Gibson, both of Richmond (now Scotland) County, North Carolina. Sallie was also born in the section of Richmond County that is now Scotland County. She was married to Alexander Rascoe. Her death certificate gives her date of death as 10 May 1919, rather than the date of 12 May 1919 as shown on her gravestone.
