Dorothy, known as Dot, married Jim Best on November 25, 1935 at Lake Junaluska. They lived in Rogers Cove in the Upper Crabtree Community where they raised their son Jimmy Lee Best. Dot worked at Wellco for many years. She was living with her son Jimmy in Florida when she passed away.

"Dorothy Jewel McCracken Best, 79, of Nobleton Fl. died March 2 1999. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Essie Hoglan McCracken. She was a retired employee of Wellco Enterprises,Inc. She was also a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Best.
Surviving are one son, Jimmy Lee Best of Nobleton Fl, one sister, Georgia Ferguson of Siler City, NC; one brother Walter "Bud' McCracken of Morristown TN; two grandchilldren; five great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 pm Sunday at Mount Zion Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Charles Messer will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church."
