Franklin was a member of Company D 9th Minnesota Infantry during the Civil War
Franklin N. Brown, when 24 years old, enlisted on 8/17/1862 at Winnebago, Faribault Co., MN as a Private and mustered into "D" Co. MN 9th Infantry. He died of disease on 1/13/1863 at Saint Peter, MN.
