Lucille V. Hazel Palmer, age 87 of Battle Creek, died Sunday, December 7, 2008, at the Marshall Nurshing and Rehabilitation Community. Lucille was born on February 7, 1921, in Leet, West Virginia, the daughter of Albert and Della (Aldridge) Brumfield.

She moved to the area from Sturgis, Kentucky, after her marriage to James R. C. Hazel in 1940. She and James operated service stations for over 40 years in Battle Creek. He preceded her in death in 1978. Lucille later married Ralph Palmer, who also preceded her in death. She enjoyed collecting hats, cookbooks, and figurines.

Surviving are a son, James R. C. (Donna) Hazel, Jr. of Battle Creek; daughter, Barbara Albert; 4 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. She had 3 brothers and 3 sisters. She was preceded in death by daughter, Sandra Heuer, a son Milford "Brad" Hazel, a grand daughter, Juliee Norman in 1991 and a grandson Matthew Albert in 2003.

Interment will be at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.
