Urban Ridings was born in Tennessee Ridge TN May 21, 1896. He was a son of James T. and Mary F. (Van Hook) Ridings. He came to Granite City, IL at the age of 16 years, where he was employed by Granite City Steel as a mill-wright, retiring in 1961. His first marriage was to Bertha Barnes in Tennessee Ridge, TN. They were the parents of two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Mildred) French and Mrs. William (Galda) Burchum. Mrs Bertha Ridings died. On December 14, 1929, he married Mrs. Beatrice (Travis) Andrews of Granite City, IL. Their sons were: Urban Leonard "Tooney", who is deceased,James T., Melford "Bud", and Roy C. Ridings. Their daughters were: Helen Ruth and Lila Ridings. Both the parents and children were active members of the Primitive Baptist Church. They moved into the Mt. Nebo community in 1939. He was ordained Deacon in 1943. James, "Jim" Ridings joined in 1955. He is an ordained Elder in the Primitive Baptist Church. Melford,"Bud" Ridings also joined in 1955. He is an ordained Deacon. Roy joined in July 1987. Lila joined in 1951. She was married to Jim Darnell. Their son Roger joined Mt. Nebo in July 1977. Lila is retired, living in Florida. Helen Ruth married Harry Gaffner. Their son Eddie Gaffner, joined Mt. Nebo in July 2001. His daughter, Liesl joined in 2005. After Harry Gaffner died, Helen Ruth married Bill Sybert. She has since died. Urban died February14, 1974 Beatrice died April 30, 2001. They are buried in New Mt. Nebo Cemetery
