Blanche (Pitts) Brown
Former Shelbyville resident Blanche (Pitts) Brown, 84, Franklin, died Saturday at the Franklin United Methodist Home.
Born Aug. 4, 1913, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of L. Russell and Erdie (Swain) Pitts. In 1935, she married Warren M. Brown, and he died July 3, 1983.
Mrs. Brown was a resident of Shelbyville from 1937 to 1995. She was a teacher at schools in Rush and Shelby counties. She last taught school in the Union Township grade school.
Mrs. Brown had attended Indiana University and the University of Southern California.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Shelbyville; Indiana University Alumni Club; Delta Delta Delta Fraternity; and Chapter AL, P.E.O.
She was a charter member of Psi Iota Xi and past president of the auxiliary chapter of Psi Iota Xi and a Red Cross volunteer at Major Hospital.
Survivors include three sons, Phillip W. Brown, Shelbyville, James R. Brown, Manilla, and Steven M. Brown, Rocky Mountain, N.C.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Carmony-Ewing Broadway Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert M. Campbell and Alan Rumble officiating. Burial will be in Little Blue River Cemetery.
Friends may call today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Morristown Lions Scholarship Fund, Little Blue River Friends Church or the Shelbyville-Shelby County Public Library.
