He married Marcia Goheen on January 19, 1975 in Tekonsha, Michigan. They had 8 children. They loved to square and round dance. He was past president of the Battle Creek Area Square and Round Dance Association. He was past president of Calhoun County Firefighters Association. He was a long time member of Calhoun County Fair Board and was a wagonmaster for the fair's 150th anniversary.
