Louis was the son of Dr. Louis Christopher (Columbus) Long (1854-1914) & Mary Ellen Keedy Long (1865-1944). His given name was Louis Columbus after his father, however when he was asked his name during his church confirmation, he told the minister that it was Louis Charles Long & from then on that was his name.

He had two siblings, MayBelle Virginia (1888), & Elmo Thomas (1894). After his father died in 1914, the extended family moved to Weld Co., CO to homestead. From there, his mother, sister & Louis moved to Los Angeles in 1925.

Louis Charles fought in W.W.I, 1917-1919 in France. He was in Co. A, 115th Engineers, AMEXFORCES FRANCE with General Pershing. Cablegrams Exchanged between General Headquarters & Expeditionary Forces 1917-1919, General Pershing.
