Benton, March 20 - Mrs. Gertie Steed, aged 84, widow of William M. Steed, died Sunday at her home here. She taught in Benton schools for 35 years and was an honorary member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a lifelong resident of Benton and a member of First Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, James Steed; four daughters, Mrs. Janice Cox and Mrs. Nancy Neely of Benton, Mrs. Agnes Ferguson of Kentucky and Pauline Duggan of Clarksville, Indiana; a brother, Robert L. Henderson of Alhambra, California; two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Hockersmith of Benton and Mrs. M. F. Scott of Miami, Florida; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Methodist Church by Rev. John McCormick. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery by Ashby Funeral Service. [from the Arkansas Gazette, Monday, March 21, 1960]
