PFC in the United States Army from June 1, 1954 to May 31, 1956.

Roy E. 'Pete' Carby, age 73, husband of Margie Carby, was called to rest on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 while residing at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

Mr. Carby was the son of Anna Adress Muss Carby and Orville Emmett Carby, Sr.

Mr. Carby was survived by a son, Gregg Carby, Lexington, Kentucky, and two daughters; Mrs. Laura R. Carby Smith (Greg), Louisville, Kentucky, and Karen L. Carby of Lexington, Kentucky. In addition, Pete was survived by two sisters; Violet Opal Carby Flake, Russellville, Arkansas, and Juanita Rose Carby Dixon of Sulphur Springs, Texas; a brother, Harel Lyn Carby, Sr., McQueeny, Texas; four grandchildren, Matthew Tungate, Louisville, Kentucky, Lindsay and Christina Smith also of Louisville, Kentucky, and Trisha Tungate of Lexington, Kentucky; a great granddaughter, Zoe Tungate, of Louisville, Kentucky. He was also survived by brothers-in-law that were like brothers to him and sisters-in-law that meant the world to him, as well as numerous nieces and nephews along with so many special friends.

Mr. Carby was predeceased by the following siblings: three brothers; Robert E. Carby who died at birth, David Calvin Carby, and Orville Emmett Carby, Jr., and four sisters; Corporal Clara Lee Ciresi, Glenna I Carby Barrett, Dorothy V Carby Wilbur, and Eula May Carby Harpool.

Pete was a member of the 101st Airborne Division of the Army. He retired from General Telephone Company in 1990. He served his country as a PFC in the United States Army from June 1, 1954 to May 31, 1956.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 15, 2004 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Main Street, Lexington, Kentucky. Services were conducted by Reverend Terrence Freeman. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
