David's time in high school will long be remembered for his campaign for class president during which he led a Jersey Cow, obtained from his families' dairy, through the halls of the school. The campaign, while unsuccessful, resulted in a nickname that followed him for much of his life, "Jers". After graduating from Granite High, David attended the University of Utah from 1951 until 1952 when he joined the United States Air Force. David returned from the service and reenrolled at the University where he obtained his Bachelors Degree and met and married the love of his life Pamela Martin in 1955.
