Information from an old newspaper clipping found in his grandson, Edgar Smith Rice's Bible:
Beverly Smith Holtzman -
Beverly Smith Holtzman, aged 86 died Thursday at the home of his son-in-law, E. O. Burch, 234 Virginia Avenue, following an illness of three weeks. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Holtzman, and five children - George M and Edgar S. Holtzman, Mrs. Betty Burch, Mrs. Sally Rice and Miss Barbara Holtzman. The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from St.John's Lutheran Church, with burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

April 18, 1862, April 18, 1882 at New Market, VA, Re-entered at Conrad's Store May 1, 1862, had his own brown horse valued at $1,300, Dec. 31, 1863-March 31, 1864 on detached service in the bakery dept. Admitted General Hospital No 9, Feb. 27, 1865. Furloughed 30 days Feb. 28, 1865, paroled prisoner. Presnt on a MR of paroled and exchanged prisoners at Camp Lee, near Richmond 2-28-1865. Paroled at Winchester, April 18, 1865. Described as age 30, 5'6", dark complection, dark hair and hazel eyes. Post war resident of W. VA. Died at Cumberland, Md. Dec 10, 1921.
