Arthur A. H. Nehring, age 70, of Rice, died in Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2000.
Arthur was born in Rice on Feb. 10, 1930, the only son of Otto H. and Anna C. (Jausel) Nehring.
He was united in marriage to Mary L. Hutchings on May 11, 1951, in Washington, and from this union came five children.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1952, Arthur accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior on a ship traveling to Japan during his tour of duty. He joined the Concord Baptist Church in Rice in 1953, and he was named a Deacon in 1973. He served in numerous positions within the church during his years as a member. His current position was as Assistant Treasurer and Deacon. He also served on the Concord Cemetery Committee.
Mr. Nehring owned and operated Nehring Gas Company and worked for the Illinois Baptist State Association as a Camp Manager at Lake Sallateeska Baptist Camp for 20 years. He was a volunteer of the Little Egypt Network of the American Red Cross, where he worked with the Single Family Disaster Relief all across the United States. He worked with the E.S.D.A. of Perry County and belonged to the World Changers organization. He also worked with the Illinois Baptist Disaster Relief Unit and belonged to the Campers on Mission.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Rice; two sons, Donald A. Nehring and wife, Karia, of Pinckneyville, and Scott A. Nehring and wife, Sarah, of Rice, three daughters, Alice Lyn Brock and husband, Greg, of Decatur, Cheryl A. Folden and husband, Russell of Tampa, Fla and Lori Lou Nehring of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Doris Porter and husband, Lester, of Nashville; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held at the Concord Baptist Church in Rice at 11 am. Tuesday, April 4, 2000, with the Rev. Steve Hamilton and Rev. Don Grammer officiating. Interment will be in Concord Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:30 am. Tuesday at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville and then from 10 to 11 am. Tuesday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross Little Egypt Network or the Concord Baptist Church.
