Born at Tayor's Creek to Richard and Mary Watts Morris. He married Matilda Elizabeth Coleman. Edward was a member of the Virginia Constitutional convention of 1850-51. He was a prominent lawyer. He inherited land from his father in western Hanover and had built there Clazemont, where he lived and died.

He was a lawyer that studied at William and Mary and Harvard.
