According to research he first married Josephine Sprague on 15 Jan 1867 at Cleveland, Ohio and they are living in Council Bluffs, Iowa on the 1870 census with son Frank. Their son George D. Potter was born there about 1871. He marries Eliza Jane Potter in 1873 and they have four known children, however on the 1900 census she states she was the mother of six with four living. They are not living together then although she states she is married on that census. She died in 1904. Records for the National Soldiers Home in Sawtelle, CA have his nearest relative listed as Frank H. Potter, his son from his first marriage.
