Alfred E. Assmann, age 83 of 14611 Saxonburg Road, town of Mishicot, was called to his eternal home on Monday, May 1, 2006, at the Northridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Manitowoc, where he has been a resident for the past month after a two-year courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mishicot, with the Rev. Robert Johannes officiating with entombment to follow in the Knollwood Mausoleum, Highway 310 in Manitowoc.

Alfred was born July 28, 1922, in the town of Mishicot to the late Ira and Mary Gesser Assmann, and has been a lifelong area resident. He was baptized into the Christian faith at home on Nov. 2, 1923, and made his promises to his Lord in the rite of confirmation at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church on Dec. 22, 1935 by the late Rev. Edward Zell. He graduated from the eighth grade at Pleasant View Elementary School in the Town of Mishicot on June 6, 1936, and from Mishicot High School on May 24, 1940, where he enjoyed being a four-year member of the high school band. After graduation, he farmed on the homestead farm with his brother, and also was assisted by his late brother, Florian, during the busy season. He farmed his entire working life, and also worked at Hamilton Manufacturing Co. in Two Rivers for a number of years. He enjoyed playing the card game of sheepshead.

He is survived by his brother, who resides on the farmstead home; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law of Manitowoc; his nephews and nieces. He is further survived by his great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother; Florian Assmann; and two sisters; Alice Assmann and Adeline Kobes.

Relatives and friends may call after 9 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mishicot, until the time of service at 11 a.m. There will be no Tuesday evening visitation. A memorial fund has been established in his name for St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home of Mishicot is assisting the Assmann family with funeral arrangements.
