Andrew H. BYRD, became one of the most distinguished men of HighlandCounty, of which he was the founder, as he, then a member of the Houseof delegates, introduced and carried through the bill creating this county.


Twice sheriff, Served in the War of 1812.

Andrew moved further north on the Cow Pasture after his father'sdeath. He served in the War of 1812, served for many years as ajustice in Bath Co., was sheriff twice and represented the county inRichmond for 22 years. In 1822 he introduced a bill creating HighlandCo. and setting the county line so that his residence was within thenew county. There were six children.
