Carl R. Bowers
Carl Ray Bowers, 71, of Shelbyville died Monday, March 3, 2008, at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born July 16, 1936, in Shelby County, he was the son of John O. and Lou Versa (Sullivan) Bowers. He married Alice Fay Camden on May 5, 1959, and she preceded him in death in 1974.
Survivors include his daughters, Wanda (husband, Randy) Bowers, Lou Ann Moore, Mary Alice (husband, Andrew) Anderson, Sandra (husband, Kenton) Jones and Tracy (husband, Mark) LaFary, all of Shelbyville; brother, Tom Bowers of Shelbyville; sisters, Lena Mae Keel of Shelbyville, Rosie Baker of Greenfield and Bonnie Jeffries of Fairland; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Pamela S. Bolton, Carla R. Bowers and an infant daughter; sisters, Nellie Cherry and June Mahoney; and brothers, Bud Bowers, Pete Bowers and Evert Bowers.
Mr. Bowers was a lifelong Shelbyville resident.
He had been employed at Knauf Insulation for 40 years, retiring in 1996, and trained standardbred horses at Shelby County Fairgrounds for more than 25 years.
Mr. Bowers graduated from Fairland High School in 1954.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Humphrey officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
