John was the son of Pardon E. and Roxcennia C. (Roxanne) Tabor. He had six siblings; Ebenezer S., Job J., Laura A., Susan P., Helen M. and Albert P. On April 12, 1857 John married Mary A. Little. John worked as a farmer early on in his life. Upon getting married he was a shoe worker. John and Mary had eight children; Ida M., Henry M., Mary E., Edward E., Ann J., Fannie M., John E. and Ellery E. He raised his family in Hampstead. On November 21, 1898 John died of Paralysis, which affected his muscles. This was most likely caused by a stroke or an accident. A contributing factor to his death was heart disease. John and Mary had been married forty-one years at the time of his death. John was sixty-two when he died.
