Mrs. Hazel A. Cooper 89 of White Oak Manor in Rutherfordton formerly of Princeton left this earth to be with her Lord and join her husband Leonard F. Cooper on May 21, 2009.

She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother and Friend. Born October 29, 1919 in Mercer County, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Samuel G. and Velvie M. Basham Wiley.

She spent most of her life in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia and later moved to Virginia to be closer to her family.

On one of her frequent visits to the Mountains of North Carolina she suffered a stroke and remained at White Oak Manor nursing home.

She loved sewing, quilting, and gardening. She also loved sitting outside and watching the birds, animals and people. She was truly loved and will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched in her own special way.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; daughter, Shirley R. Cambre; and two grandchildren, Michael Wirt and Jackie Eldridge Zarza.

She leaves behind six children; Jean Wirt of LA, Jerry Carver of VA, Jo Ann and husband David Satterwhite of VA, Helen Eldridge of WI, Patricia and husband Werner Maringer of NC, Leonard Jr. and wife Joan Cooper of VA; one sister, Betty and her Husband Minor Vaught of VA; one brother, Bill and his wife Maida Wiley of MI; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren to whom she will now be their guardian Angel in Heaven. She also leaves behind many friends she made during her long life on earth.

A service of celebration was held 2pm Thursday, May 28, 2009 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton. Burial in the Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton. Friends visited with the family on Thursday, from 1pm until the service hour.
