Born near Arnaudville, Louisiana to Edwin Adolph and Caroline Robin Stelly. He served in the United States Army, and was stationed in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was a Combat Construction Specialist. He served in the Corps of Engineers, C Battalion, of the 24th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded in action by a missile on September 19, 1950 while stationed in South Korea. After serving in the Army, Irvin moved to Peoria, Illinois and went to work for Caterpillar, where he was employed for the rest of his life. Irvin married a Peoria girl, Evelyn Thurman, and they had four children: Julia, Edwin Duane, Clarissa, and Michael. Irvin was very active in his local American Legion Post for the remainder of his life. Irvin died of cancer on February 3, 1974 and is buried in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.

CREVE COEUR - Services for Irvin J. Stelly, 42, of 204 Hawthorne Circle, were held at Endsley & Son Funeral Home, 1417 South Stanley, Peoria, Illinois.

Stelly died at 4:30 P.M. Sunday at Methodist Hospital in Peoria, where he had been a patient since December 27.

He was a motor tester at Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 22 years, last working November 12. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post 1234 of Creve Coeur, having served as Post Commander.

Surviving are his widow, Evelyn Stelly; two daughters, Miss Julie and Miss Clarissa Stelly, and two sons, Duane and Michael, all at home; and his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Edwin A. Stelly of Opelousas, Louisiana.

Also surviving are three sisters; Mrs. Edmay Bertrand, Mrs. Florence Fontenot, and Mrs. Gladys Carrier, all of Opelousas, and three brothers; Wilfred of New Orleans, Louisiana, Robert of Opelousas, and Joseph of Lafayette, Louisiana.
