I never met George, although I feel a connection and responsibility to him that I can't explain. The information I have is from my mom and great aunt Majel Healey(George's first cousin).
George was adopted by my great-great Aunt Bessie T.(Collister)Lybolt and her husband George L. Lybolt (Uncle Lew). A woman dropped him off at their house, and they had to go find her to adopt him. Uncle Lew really loved him, but unfortunatly he passed when George was only a baby (just shy of 3 years old). Aunt Bessie had it hard after Uncle Lew's death. She struggled to keep a home for George - she rented rooms, did washing and ironing to make ends meet.
When George was a child he was sitting on the curb outside their house and was hit by a car. I think he broke his leg and may have had a head injury. He wasn't the same after that.
George was in the service for a short while. He was married and divorced. He had 2 or 3 girls - but the family lost track of them after the divorce.
After Aunt Bessie died, George's Uncle, Floyd Dorriell took him under his wing. Tragically, Floyd passed away in 1962. He was at home when he passed, and wasn't found for several days or more during a very hot summer. It was George who found him - it was quit a horrific sight and my mom thinks that he was greatly disturbed by it. She doesn't know if she ever saw him after that.
In 1974 my mom saw his death notice in the Lansing State Journal. She went down to the funeral home and they told her that they didn't know of any family and that he was going to be buried in something like a paupers grave. She told them about his mom and dad being buried in Laingsburg cemetery and that she thought there were extra family plots. They were able to arrange for him to be buried next to his mom and dad.
