Goschke, Russell Thomas Twp., Michigan Passed away Thursday, December 18, 2008. Age 90 years. Russell John Goschke was born October 21, 1918 in Saginaw to Emil and Caroline (Bruns) Goschke. He married Betty Jane Voss on January 27, 1940. She preceded him in death on May 10, 1994. Mr. Goschke served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, and received the purple heart. Russell was a member of the VFW and the DAV. He owned and operated Genesee Texaco and later managed Shields Auto parts for many years. Russell was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church. Surviving are two sons and their families, James W. (Judy) Goschke, John "Jack" (Renae) Goschke; his grandchildren, Lindsey and Jenny Goschke, Matthew (Jennifer) and Bryon (Shannon) Goschke; great grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew, Gracie and Emma Goschke, his brother Lavern, sisters Delores Tyra and Beatrice Himmelein. Russell was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Wendy (Goschke) Luplow, and also by his brothers and sisters Ralph, Leslie, Leroy and Amelia. Funeral Service will take place 11:30AM Monday, December 22 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 8695 Gratiot Rd. Rev. Douglas W. Kahl will officiate with interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be observed at the cemetery under the auspices of VFW Post 439. Friends and family will gather at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home on S. Midland Rd on Sunday from 2PM to 8PM, and at church on Monday one hour before the funeral. Memorial offerings may be given to Ascension Lutheran Church or VNA Hospice.
