Tabitha married about 1749 to Capt. William Borland who had previously been married to Tabitha's older sister Rebecca (who died April 28, 1749). Upon her marriage, Tabitha became step-mother to her nephew John and nieces Mary and Jean. William and Tabitha had 8 children. In December 1779 Tabitha became a widow.
In the year 1800 Tabitha was enumerated in Wallkill, Orange Co., New York as the head of her household consisting of 3 individuals: 2 free females over 45 years of age (presumably Tabitha and her daughter Rebecca) and one slave that must have been less than 25 years old. Sometime following the 1800 census Tabitha Borland was the first Wallkill resident to free her slave, in accordance with a legislative act in 1799. Filed with the town's officials was a doument reading:
"I do hereby certify that I have manumitted and set free my Negro slave, Otis, as fully and amply as I am authorized by the Act of Legislature entitled ‘An Act for the gradual abolition of slavery,' passed the 29th day of March, 1799, Tabetha Borland."
October 8, 1809 Tabitha wrote her Last Will & Testament asking that her property be sold and the money from that sale along with the money from her savings bonds be used to support her daughter Rebecca for the remainder of Rebecca's life. It mentioned her other living daugthers "Tabathy, Isabella and Pheby" and appointed her son Thomas Borland executor.
In 1810 Tabitha was enumerated in Wallkill, Orange Co., NY and her household consisted of 3 females (presumable Tabitha, daughter Rebecca and another older woman, perhaps another daughter?)
Widow Tabitha (McNeal) Borland died on 28 June 1815, at the age of 91 years, 'of old age' as her death record was recorded in the Records of the First Presbyterian Church at Goshen.
Tabitha's Will was probated and filed in the Orange County Records at Goshen as follows:
