Born in Harlem, New York on July 16, 1956, she was the daughter of Ruth Jackson and the late Harold L. Jackson. She was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Vance.
Irene was a loving person who loved to entertain family and friends and make them laugh. She also dearly loved to sleep.
She is survived by a devoted and loving husband of 33 years, Edward Carter of Lynchburg; a loving and devoted daughter, Lisa Lea Carter of Lynchburg; a loving mother, Ruth Jackson and her step-father, James Elleyby, of Lynchburg; one brother, Theodore Vance and his wife, Christine, of Afton, Virginia; seven sisters, Teresa Jackson of Richmond, Virginia, Thelma Robinson and her husband, Daniel, of Charlottesville, Denise Valentine, Shirley Elleyby, MaryAnn Williams, Hope Elleyby and Jamie Elleyby all of Lynchburg; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was dearly loved by her husband, mother, daughter, sisters and a devoted sister-in- law Doreen Jacques and husband Carl Lee. She will be truly missed.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at the J. F. Bell Funeral Home, with Raymond Jones officiating.
