Born in Farmington Twp., Olmstead Co., MN to James Arnold and Mary Ann Wheeler both born in England. Charles married Catherine Loi Hansen in Brookings Co., SD 21 Jul 1895. They had 5 children James Dewey, Loie C., Alice Mae, Franklin A., and Grandville Charlie all born Brookings Co., SD. Charles had a problem with beating his wife and children. Charles and Catherine divorced 2 Feb 1911 and his ex wife and children were left to support themselves. He later left each of these children $1 each in his will.

He then married Clara Brosowske Falk 26 years younger than him and had 5 more children Vernon W., Ernest F., June Lorraine, Betty June, and Patricia Ann. He again had problems with beating his children and step children. This has been documented by the grandson of Clara's son by her first husband.

Charles was educated at the Wesleyan Methodist Seminary in Wasioja, MN before moving to South Dakota in 1884. Charles Arnold was a farmer and livestock dealer in Brookings Co., SD.

In 1908 Charles was elected to one term to represent the twenty-second district in the SD state house of representatives as a republican from 1909-1910.

He also lived in White, SD and later moved to Watertown, SD.

He died on 9 Oct 1946 in Watertown, Codington Co., SD.

His second son Ernest Foch Arnold was killed during WWII over England. He is buried in Cambridge England in a US Cemetery.
