After the war he married Melba and began his family while he and his father operated Bartschmid Oil Well Machine Works for 17 years. In 1963, he returned to Texas and became a school teacher at McCallum High School in Austin, as Industrial Cooperative Training Coordinator until 1968. He then began his "4th career" as a consultant in Industrial Education for the Texas Education Agency until his retirement in 1985. He was a minister of Pastoral Care at First Evangelical Free Church in Austin and an adult Sunday School teacher in the years after he retired. He and Melba moved to Georgetown, Texas in 2001.
He had a passion for bible study and never stopped learning. After earning two masters degrees, he received his Doctor of Theology from Louisiana Baptist Theological Seminary at age 79 and his Ph.D. from Louisiana Baptist at age 82. His other loves were family, steam trains, forestry, land management and Texas A&M University.
Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, Rebecca Ann Falgout of Galveston, Texas; Albert H. Bartschmid, IV of Buchanan Dam, Texas; and Kyle Thomas Bartschmid of College Station, Texas.
