Albert Henry Bartschmid, Jr. 1921-2009 left to be present with his Lord, Jesus Christ, on February 23, 2009, after a battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Melba Rains Bartschmid, and his two children, Betty Rains Bartschmid, Ph.D., of Blacksburg, Virginia and Albert Henry Bartschmid, III, M.D. and wife Pamela Bartschmid of Georgetown, Texas. He was born in Marshall, Texas, son of Albert Henry Bartschmid, Sr. and Mary Wells Bartschmid, and moved to Shreveport, Louisiana at an early age. He graduated from Fair Park High School in 1939 and Texas A&M University, Class of 1942. He was then commissioned in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of Captain, spending 36 months in combat zones during WWII. He participated in the invasion of North Africa at Casablanca. He fought in campaigns in Naples, Anzio and Cassino. Next the invasion of Southern France at Marsailles, crossing of the Rhine and liberation of Dachau Death Camp. After the war he married Melba and began his family while he and his father operated Bartschmid Oil Well Machine Works for 17 years. In 1963, he returned to Texas and became a school teacher at McCallum High School in Austin, as Industrial Cooperative Training Coordinator until 1968. He then began his "4th career" as a consultant in Industrial Education for the Texas Education Agency until his retirement in 1985. He was a minister of Pastoral Care at First Evangelical Free Church in Austin and an adult Sunday School teacher in the years after he retired. He and Melba moved to Georgetown, Texas in 2001.

He had a passion for bible study and never stopped learning.
