He lived in Los Angeles in the 1930's and eventually met and married Dare (nee Montgomery) on January 9, 1937. Their only son, Denny, was born in Tucson, Arizona, in November of 1940.
Following a diagnosis of Hodgkin's Disease, contracted during his military service as a sailor during World War I, he died at the Long Beach, California, Veteran's Administration Hospital.
