Funeral services for Mrs. May Ione Cawley of Thornton, age 89, were held in the Kibler Chapel on Tuesday afternoon, September 3, at two o'clock. She passed away at her home in Thornton on Sunday, September 1, after being in ill health for many years.
Mrs. Cawley was born on February 5, 1885, in Temple, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Presley. She was married to Henry Alonzo Cawley in November, 1904, at Cooks Point, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband. She moved to Houston to Thornton in 1969. She was a member of the Church of the Latter Day Saints.
She is survived by three sons, Julius Olen Cawley of Houston, James Ronald Cawley of Centerville, and Alonzo Presley Cawley of Waco; one daughter, Mrs. Audrey May Briggs of Thornton; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Rev. Alfred Feldman and Rev. Bill Daniel, both of Marlin officiated at the funeral services.
Bill Sadler provided soft organ music.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Interment was in the Thornton Cemetery.

Thornton-Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ione (Pressley) Cawley, 89, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Kibler Funeral Home Chapel in Grosebeck. Rev. Bill Daniels officiating. Burial will be in the Thornton City Cemetery.
Mrs. Cawley died in her daughter's home here Sunday.
She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mrs. Cawley resided in Bryan for many years.
Mrs. Cawley was a daughter of a Confederate veteran J.J. Pressley and attended every reunion of Hood's Brigade in Bryan.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Audrey Mae Briggs of Thornton; three sons, Julius O. Cawley of Houston, James Ronald Cawley of Centerville and Dick Cawley of Waco; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are grandsons William O. Cawley, Richard E. Cawley, Donald H. Cawley, James O. Cawley, Robert Sherrill Cawley and William O. Cawley, Jr.
