JUANITA M. HIGGINS
1917-2004
Juanita M. (Watson) Higgins was born on March 28, 1917, in the Ryal Community and departed this life February 13, 2004. She was the third of seven children born to J. R. and Beryl (Craft) Watson.
Juanita graduated from Graham High School as Valedictorian of her class. In 1939 she met Frank S. Hold of Henryetta, and the couple was married that year. To this union two sons were born, Terry and Denny Hold.
When Pearl Harbor was bombed in 1941, Frank volunteered for the Navy Seebees. He gave his life in the Phillipines, and Juanita was left with two sons to raise.
She graduated from beauty school in Tulsa, where she became co-owner of a beauty shop. Later she operated a shop in her home in Henryetta.
Her zest for living and outgoing personality gained her many friends and customers. She was a very creative person, and this was reflected in her work, her home, and art. She was a member of the Henryetta Art Guild and was recognized for her paintings.
At this time she had met and married Luther VanArsdel. The marriage was later dissolved and she married Lester Minyard. After the death of Mr. Minyard, she married Thurman Bob Higgins. They both had been members of the Henryetta Church of Christ for many years. Mr. Higgins died in 1997.
Preceding Mrs. Higgins in death are her parents, her husbands, Frank S. Hold, Lester Minyard, Thurman Higgins; one sister, Odessa; and three brothers, Everett, Benny and Jeryl Watson.
She is survived by sons Terry Hold of Henryetta, and Denny Hold of Dustin; a daughter –in-law, Beverly Hold of Dustin; two sisters, Wanda Been of Henryetta and June Sewell and her husband Raymond of Muskogee; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Church of Christ in Henryetta on Wednesday, February 18, at 2:00 p. m. Burial will be in the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Robert Simons Funeral Home.
