Grover was born in 1903 in Hamilton, Alabama, the son of Daniel Mansfield Carter and Dora Bell Hambrick. He fell in love with Alice M. Atteberry, they were married on Jan. 12, 1924 in Jasper, Alabama. During WWII he worked as a machinst in the air craft industry. For a time, he owned his own gas station and repaired cars in Mesa,Arizona. The family had three children. Grover was a quiet person who loved to read. I never saw him lose his temper or heard him raise his voice. His hobby was geology, he had a wonderful collection of rocks and minerals, knew quite a lot about it and loved to go prospecting in the Supertition Mountians. Grover and Alice lived in California for a number of years in the 1970's, but returned to the "Valley of the Sun" in the 1980's where he passed away a day before his birthday in 1985 in Glendale, Arizona.
