Born and raised in the Brightmoor area of Detroit, Louis served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He held a variety of positions including heavy equipment operation.

After his time in the service, Lou went on to college, attending Wayne State University and earning his Bachelors degree. He then went on to earn his Masters Degree at the University of Michigan.

Several years later, Lou returned to Wayne State for their doctoral program, earning his Doctorate of Education. He was a teacher in the Dearborn Public Schools for about thirty years and served a term as President of the Michigan Education Association (MEA).

After retirement and the loss of his beloved wife Dorothy, Lou filled his time with travel and many clubs and activities. He was a world traveler, having visited not only all 50 states, but also every continent (including Antartica), most of Europe and numerous other worldwide destinations, including the extremely remote and unusual countries that few people ever visit.

Lou was an active member of the Michigan Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a direct descendant of Spencer R. "Clinch River" Breeding of Virginia.

Lou belonged to the Nomad's and was a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. He also was a member of the Plymouth Elks, Lola Valley Masonic Lodge, the Royal Order of Scotland, Valley of Detroit Chapter of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and the Moslem Shriners.

Some of the dogs that Lou owned and loved during his lifetime were Abbie, Mac, Lass, Rhoda, Charlie and Jake.

Dear Dad,
I thought of you today,
But that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday,
And days before that too.
I think of you in silence,
I often speak your name.
All I have are memories,
And a picture in a frame.
Your memory is a keepsake,
From which I'll never part.
God has you in His hands,
I have you in my heart.
