News item from the Blue Earth Post, October 23, 1923:

Mrs. Stevens, mother of Mrs. M. M. Kerr is still in a very critical condition. She is now suffering with sleeping sickness and very little hope is held for her recovery. She has been confined to her bed ever since she was injured in a fall at the grotto at West Bend, Ia., several weeks ago.

Obituary from the Blue Earth Post, October 30, 1923:

Mrs. Lottie Stevens died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. M. Kerr at Elmore, Saturday, October 27th. Some seven weeks ago Mrs. Stevens was injured by a fall in which a hip was broken. She was apparently recovering when pneumonia set in and owing to her weakened condition was unable to battle with the dreaded disease. Mrs. Stevens was about 71 years of age and had resided at this place and Elmore many years. She is survived by the one daughter, two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Franklin of this place and Mrs. W. O. Dustin of Elmore, and two brothers, Than and Ben Nichols of Blue Earth. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at Elmore, and the remains brought to Blue Earth for interment.
