Francis Elizabeth Pendley, was born in May in Alabama, but there is some descrepancy as to the day and year.

Alternate dates: 18 in 1860 (born 1842), 28 in 1870 (born 1842). May 1841 (1900 census). May 20, 1840 (info. from her son on her death certificate). May 22, 1845 (interview with her granddaughter Alice Atteberry Carter, 1969).

She married Thomas Atteberry (Sr.)about 1859 before her son Robert was born.

1860 census: Village, Jackson, Arkansas:
T. Atterberry (note spelling variation!) 20 IL
Frances E. 18 born AL, Robert 1/12 (1 mo.) born AK.

1870 census: Moreland, Scott, Missuori, Saint Cloud P.O.;
Thomas Atterberry 30 (all born MO.)
Francis E Atterberry 28 (born abt 1842)
Thomas Atterberry 8
Luke Atterberry 16 (too young to be a son - brother?)

1800 - not yet found! (please contact me if you find it!) The search is complicated by the many spellings of the name Pendley/Pindley/Pendeley/Penla, Pindly, just to name a few.

She remarried in 1884. See;
Missouri Marriage Records, 1805-2002
Elizabeth Otterbury (Atteberry) Married 13 April 1884, Stoddard, Missouri to M.J. Sadler

Atteberry family photo, taken about 1906, gives her as "Grandma Sadler".

Elizabeth, again widowed, went to live with her son and his growing family, they'd moved to Alabama.

1900 census: George's Creek, Fayette, Alabama
Tom Atteberry, wife Evaline and 8 of 9 children still living, mother, Frances E. Atterberry (spelling!), Widowed, born May 1841, Alabama, 4 children, 3 living (so far two names are still unknown), both parents born Georgia.

About 1917, shortly before the outbreak of both WWI and the Spanish Flu epidemic, they all moved back to Missouri, where she died of acute dysentery two years later and was burid at Hornersville Cemetery, in Dunklin County. Her headstone, if she ever had one, is no longer standing.

Her son, Thomas, was informant for the information on her death certificate. Unfortunately, the surnames are all misspelt.
