The death certificate has her birth day as Sept. 6 1862. I was handed down the information about her birth, death and burial and her parents name from Kenneth and Joseph Slavens sons of Earl Slavens back in 2000. Mary Ann Nally Slavens is Joe's grandmother. His mother is Martha Lucille JONES daughter of Mary Ann Nally Jones Slavens. Her first Husband was Benjamin Franklin JONES who she married in 6 Aug 1895 Northern District,Indian Territory Muskogee, Muskogee County, Oklahoma

I recently recieved a e-mail from a descendant of Mary Ann Nally that questioned the birth date on death certificate.

This is the e-mail:
I looked at the memorial for Mary Nally on findagrave memorial and I have some question about this being our Mary Ann Jones/Slavens. Willis Marion Slavens was born on 30 December 1965, which would be a near match to Mary Ann had she been born in 1862, as the death certificate says. However, the 1910 census (attached) showing Mary Ann with her family in Blythe TWP, Arkansas shows her as being 36 years old. That would have placed her date of birth more in line of the 1874/1875 time frame, and made it a more likely age to have been B.F. Jones', who was born in June 1872, first wife and having her first child (Cora Belle, dob: 10 April 1897), at 22 years old. This is more probable than her giving birth to her first child at 35 and the continuing to have four, and possibly five more children by B.F. Jones prior to marrying Willis Marion Slavens on 24 December 1912. You do know that on 23 January 1925, in Springfield, Missouri, Earl Ray Slavens, son of Willis Marion Slavens, married Martha Lucille Jones, daughter of B.F. Jones and Mary Ann Nally. I have no information on who the mother of Earl Ray was or what the extent of his relationship to Martha may have been prior to and after Willis Marion and Mary Ann were married. ....Jack

After writing him back explaining who gave me the information about Mary Ann Nally Jones - Slavens he along with me believes that the date that grandchildren said to be the actual birth. The 1920 census tells you Willis could not read or write.

Here is a little bit of history of Willis Slavens

Willis Slavens was married to
(1) 12-17-1893 Mary E. Dowel Laclede county Mo
(2) 02-27-1901 Liza Jane Ussery Wright county Mo. This is my great grandma Earl Winson Pearl and Leona's mother Winson is my grandfather.
(3) 07-29-1906 Mary Jane Richards Wright county Mo.
(4) 12-24-1912 Mary A Nally Taney county Mo. Earl Slavens line we are speaking of who married Martha Lucille Jones Earl is brother to my grandfather Winson Van Buran Slavens. Earls' son gave me this information and also Joe Kenneth is son of Earl and his second wife Rosie Ethel Wright and Joe is son to Earl and Martha Lucille Jones. They both say that she is buried at this cemetery. if you notice the death certificate says she died Mar. 11, 1934 Willis remarried on November 13, 1934 to Rachel Welch.
(5) 11-13-1934 Rachel Welch Greene county Mo.
(6) 03-18-1939 Millie Lake Greene county Mo.

This is so common with how Willis lived. He never raised any of his children and went from woman to woman.I believe the information on death cert. was given by Willlis and he truely didn't know when she was born or who her parents were.

According to a family member her name was Mary Ann Nally Jones Slavens. The cemetery records has her by the name of Mary Slavens. Should you call in for her please ask for that name to get any info they have. I can tell you the lady that takes care of the records now adds notes, when there is something found.

A family member had her birth year as 1875. Parents listed as unknown. I have used the date from the death cert.( Which I did change to what grandson told me was her birthdate) Cause of death was cardio-vasuclar renal disease. Secondary was carcinoma. Death cert. listed husband as Billie instead of Willie Slavens, and was also the informant. Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home.

Page 370 of the Greene County Cemeteries, Vol. XI Hazelwood Cemetery, by the Ozarks Genealogical Society. has her listed with an asterisk by her name. That means she does not have any monument.

I have placed a photo of the public grounds where she is. The stone at the curve in the road, she will be to the left of it a few grave lots over, and she could be in a row up from there as well. The cemetery office does not have any grave location. Only the lot number. She is not to far from a baby named Adeline Slavens that was a child of Riley Slavens.
