"Savanna, IL., Feb 21-Mrs. Frank Hatfield,Sr. 95, who came to Savanna with her parents in 1854 died Wednesday afternoon in the home of her son, Roy. For the last year Mrs. Hatfield had resided with a daughter, Mrs. Belle Shaw, in Clinton, IA. and came here early this month to observe her birthday. She had been ill since Feb 12. Services will be held at 2:30p.m. Saturday at the Methodist church. Rev. Davis Cruca of Grayslake, former Savanna pastor, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Arthur Monkman. Burial will be in Savanna cemetery.
The former Caroline Mills, Mrs. Hatfield was born Feb 10, 1851 in Erie County, PA., the daughter of Daniel A. and Phoebe Mills. She was married Feb 16, 1879 to Mr. Hatfield who died June 5, 1938. Surviving are five sons, Roy, Harvey and Frank, all of Savanna; Ralph, Benton, WI; and Charles, Reynolds, IL; two daughters Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Robert Sigafus, Savanna; a brother, John Mills, Joplin, MO; 23 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.- Freeport Journal Standard, pg. 20, Thurs., Feb 21, 1946."
