Johann Carl Phillip Pagel was born in Bandekow, Kr. Regenwalde, Pommern, Prussia, now, Bądkowo (Gryfice), Szczecin, Poland. He moved from Village to Village and Married his first Wife Riemer in Plathe. Married second wife Bathke in Neuenhagen, and had children in various nearby Villages. Son August was born in Sack, a village of only 5 Families (not on the map), and attended the Parish in Maldewin, very few records from Maldewin exist.

26 Mar 1873, departed Hamburg, Germany aboard the British Queen en route to Liverpool, England, VIA West Hartlepool.

Left England aboard the S.S. Minnesota, arrived 15 April 1873 at the Port of Detroit, and settled in Wausau, Marathon, Wisconsin, where the sons homesteaded numerous acres in the vicinity. Son Herman Emigrated about 1876, after his family and siblings.
