Sudden Death—Editorial sketch in the Camden Herald: "The sad news reached this village on Monday evening cf the sudden death of Rev. E.A. Helmershausen, residing elder of the Rockland district, at his home in Thomaston. He had been ill for some time, his complaint being congestion of the stomach, but had so far recovered his health as to be able to go about, and the day on which he died he went to Rockland with his team. His wife was at one of the neighbors when he drove home, and as he passed she noticed something unusual about his manner of driving, and thinking that all was not right hastened home. Not finding him in the house when she arrived she went into the stable, and there found him on the floor beside the horse, dead. Means were immediately taken to restore him, but without avail. The physician who was called stated that his death was caused by paralysis of the heart. His age was fifty-five years. Mr. Helmershausen was formerly a resident, of this village (Camden), was much beloved by all who knew him, and his sudden death has brought sorrow to the hearts of a very large circle of friends and acquaintances."
