George Thomas Barnes, 88, of Stonington passed away Wednesday (May 27, 2009) in Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Patoka, Il. to Charles and Lucendea Goodwin Barnes. He married Alice Hull in 1944. She preceded him in death in 1987. He then married Betty Younker. She preceded him in death.

Surviving are his sons, Thomas D. (Pam) Barnes of Connersville, Indiana; Charles F. (Kelly) Barnes of Decatur; stepchildren, Chuck, Donna and Terry; 5 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Glenn (Kathleen) Barnes and Charles (Sadie) Barnes and sisters, Lexie Lane and Rosemary (Lawrence) Lane. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, three brothers, two sisters and son, Dale Mays.

He was a lifelong farmer before his retirement.

He was a World War II Army veteran.
